CAREER CHOICES - YOU DECIDE

Whether to Stay...? Is it best to remain with my current employer or try something new? My response below was inspired by this student's question You are asking a powerful question that many ask daily: "Should I stay with what I have… or try something new?" It can be a very tough decision to make, and each one of us can only answer it ourselves, drawing from our own internal direction. Here, I will mention some of the factors that would affect my decision: Do I love what I am doing? It has been said that if you love what you do, then you never work a day in your life! Some may say that this is "in the clouds" or not a realistic criterion. But, let me ask a question: Do you believe that you are worthy of enjoying a satisfying and challenging career (not to mention home life)? I have found in my life that I attracted exactly what my expectations were; e.g. if they were low … I got low and if they were lofty then I got great! Is the company and its people in alignm

Plain Talk About... HANDLING STRESS

Plain Talk About... Handling Stress You need stress in your life! Does that surprise you? Perhaps so, but it is quite true. Without stress, life would be dull and unexciting. Stress adds flavor, challenge, and opportunity to life. Too much stress, however, can seriously affect your physical and mental well-being. A major challenge in this stress-filled world of today is to make the stress in your life work for you instead of against you. Stress is with us all the time. It comes from mental or emotional activity and physical activity. It is unique and personal to each of us. So personal, in fact, that what may be relaxing to one person may be stressful to another. For example, if you are an executive who likes to keep busy all the time, "taking it easy" at the beach on a beautiful day may feel extremely frustrating, non-productive, and upsetting. You may be emotionally distressed from "doing nothing." Too much emotional stress can cause physical illness such as high

Are You Stressed? What Causes Your Stress? Could It Be How You React?

Discover The 90/10 Principle It will change your life (or at least, the way you react to situations) 10% of life is made up of what happens to you. …90% of life is decided by how you react… What does this mean?We really have NO control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in the traffic. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%.How?... By your reaction. Do not let people fool you. YOU can control how you react. Let us use an example… You are having breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no control over what has just happened. What happens next will be determined by how you react. You curse. You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over. She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your wife and you criticize her for placing the cup

The Efficiency Curve

The more you discipline yourself to working non-stop on a single task, the more you move down the "Efficiency Curve." You get more and more high quality work done in less and less time. Each time you stop working however, you break this cycle and move back up the curve to where every part of the task is more difficult and time consuming. Self-Discipline Is the Key Elbert Hubbard defined self-discipline as, "The ability to make yourself do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not."In the final analysis, success in any area requires tons of discipline. Self-discipline, self-mastery and self-control are the basic building blocks of character and high performance. The True Test of Willpower Starting a high-priority task and persisting with that task until it is 100% complete is the true test of your character, your willpower and your resolve.Persistence is actually self-discipline in action. The good news is that the more you discipline

How do you stay motivated Part 2

Question: What are your daily rituals for success? Answer: Over the years, I find that I am most productive if I follow a particular course of action. 1. I go to bed at about 10:00PM each night and arise at about 6:00AM in the morning; 2. I immediately exercise, sometimes just stretching and twisting to get my body working. The rule is that every joint in your body is supposed to be exercised every day. Sometimes, I work out for 20-30 minutes and working out with light weights. 3. Physical exercise and physical fitness cause your brain to release endorphins, making you more alert and creative for the rest of the day; 4. Each morning, I do 30 minutes of reading, usual spiritual reading. Henry Drummond once said, “The first hour is the rudder of the day.” When you start each day with exercise and spiritual reading, it seems to set you up mentally to be more positive and productive for the rest of the day. I also visit a positive environment like my prayer hall or house, called the Gurdw

How do you stay motivated Part 1

Question: How do you stay motivated and succeed in our economic state and in the face of adversity? Answer: There are several keys to self-motivation. · First, you must have clear, specific, written goals with plans or lists of activities to accomplish them. · Second, you must make a “To-Do List” each day, preferably made up the night before. · Third, you must review your list and ask, “If I could only accomplish one activity on this list before I was called out of town for a month, which one activity would I want to be sure to complete?” · You then begin on your most important task and discipline yourself to concentrate on it single-mindedly until it is complete. The way to stay motivated is for you to keep busy working at the most important things you can do each day to accomplish your most important goals. You cannot control external factors or the future, but you can control yourself. When you take full control of your own mind and activities, you will naturally feel positive, foc

Later on, the results came out that the paper he thought was poorly written had secured top marks i

You Can Start Your Life Over Again

Re-Birth I lost a childhood toy... but have the memory of the person who gave me that gift with unconditional love. I lost the privileges and fantasies of childhood... but had the opportunity of growing and living free. I lost a lot of people whom I loved and still love... but had the affection and now have model from their lives. I lost moments of life because I cried instead of smiling... but I discovered that it is from planting love that love is harvested. I lost many things many times in my life but in that "loss", today I aspire for the value of "gain ... because it is always possible to fight for that which we love; and because there is always time to start all over again. It is not important the time of life when you tried; what's important is that it is always possible and necessary to restart. Re-birthing is a new opportunity; it is renewing the hopes in life; and more importantly, it is believing in oneself. Did you suffer greatly sometime?... that was a t

The Power of Personal Charisma

Become An Irresistible Person Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary defines charisma as "a personal magic of leadership arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure. Develop Personal Magnetism Charisma is also that special quality of magnetism that each person has and that each person uses to a certain degree. You have a special charisma to the people who look up to you, who respect and admire you, the members of your family and your friends and co-workers. Whenever and wherever a person feels a positive emotion toward another, he imbues that person with charisma, or attractiveness. Project Yourself Positively In trying to explain charisma, some people speak of an "aura." This aura is a light that is invisible to most people, but not to everyone, and that radiates out from a person and affects the people around that person in a positive or negative way. The halo around the heads of saints and mystics in many religious paintings was the artis

Three Powerful Principles for Success

Be Clear About Your Goals There are many simi larities between business and war. In both cases, the victor is the one who uses superior strategy against his or her competition. There are three principles of military strategy you can apply to your work every single day. The first idea from the military is called the Principle of Man euver. The principle of man euver says that you should be clear about the goal, but be flexible about the process of ach ieving it. According to the Menninger Institute, this quality of flexibility is the most important single quality that you will require for success in times of rap id change. Be Open to Continuous Feedback A key peak performance quality for you is to "accept feedback and self-correct." Peak performers are those who can take information from their environment and even if the information is contrary to all of their planning, they can accept the information, modify their plans, and continue moving forward. They are always open to ne

The Journey Awaits

The beautiful journey of today can only begin when we learn to let go of yesterday.Have you ever been on a cruise or looked at one of their brochures? Some of you also have based on your achievements too. I have been fortunate enough to experience the wonderful journey a cruise can offer. The ships are so magnificently crafted, sculpted for movement, comfort, efficiency, and maximizing the full experience of the trip. You begin your journey when the ship leaves the dock and moves forward towards its destination. Along the way there is so much happening. There are so many opportunities you can experience and participate in. A romantic stroll along the deck as you look outward to the seemingly endless sea, or maybe you want to go splash around the pool, or maybe enjoy some of the fine food available to you, or maybe you'll join in some of the dancing and partying going on around you, or maybe it's evening and you feel like sitting on the balcony and looking out to the splendid moo

Who's In Charge Of Your Life?

Self Confidence Helps You Control Your Life Sometimes it sounds foolish or frustrating to think positive when times are really bad and a few people make it worse for you, doesn't it?But just tell me, if I call you tomorrow morning, while you are still in bed and say, "You are an Angel for me and I'm blessed to have such a good person in my life. May God bless you".How would you feel?Won't it be a great feeling and a great way to start a fantastic day? Next morning I again call you but this time I say, "You Rascal! You are the dumbest and most foolish person on the earth I've ever met. You screwed me and you will be screwed...etc".How would you feel now?Of course it would be a frustrating day, with a sad feeling, because you heard all the crap in the morning while you were still in bed!Now answer my question - "Who is controlling 'your' life?" Am I supposed to control YOUR life? Is that right? When I say something good about you, does

The Law of Attraction Focus On What You Want

"Within you is the divine capacity to manifest and attract all that you need or desire." --- Wayne Dyer Both "bad" and "good" things come to us in sets of three. Urban legend, folklore and story telling, as well as superstitious practices, urge us to look for and act in threes. From the genie in the magic lamp granting us 3 wishes, to tossing 3 coins in the fountain, to visiting Marie Leveau's grave and asking three times for what you want, we give our power to external forces and hope for a trinity of positive outcomes. The Magic LampCountless jokes, often repeated and reworked for local appeal, use the time-honored storyline of the genie and the magic lamp. After rubbing the lamp and unknowingly engendering the release of the captured genie constrained within, a puff of smoke exhausts out of the spout of the lamp (depicted more as an oil receptacle than a lamp). A magic man dressed in folkloric attire, emerges in the cloud of his exhumation. Now oblig

How to Get into the Two Percent Class of People Who Become Successful

Here are some suggestions of vital importance to you who sincerely desire to assimilate this philosophy of success and apply it to the achievement of the things you desire most in life: Adjust yourself to other people’s states of mind and their peculiarities so that you can get along peacefully with them. Observe a dog and learn the art of self-control by watching how quickly he adjusts himself to the moods of his master. Refrain from taking notice of trivial circumstances in your human relations by refusing to allow them to become controversial incidents. Big people always avoid small incidents in human relations by ignoring them completely. Establish your own technique for conditioning your mind at the start of each day, based upon the instructions presented in this course, so you can maintain a positive mental attitude throughout the day. Learn the art of selling yourself to others by indirection rather than by direct approach. Adopt the habit of having a hearty laugh as a means of

Never Be Too Busy To Call Or Visit Your Mom - True from my experience

As I got up today, I smelled fresh coffee as I am staying next to a factory that makes 3 in 1 coffee mixture. I woke up to find a cup of it with some biscuits on my bedside table. This reminded me of home; the old school and college days, when mamma used to wake me up by serving a steaming cup of coffee. The aroma, the taste, so refreshing, still so fresh in my memories.A sudden thought hit me, "I was in bed, so who prepared this coffee for me? Is it a dream?"I pinched myself, ouch... that hurts, which meant I was not dreaming. I walked out of the room with the cup of coffee, in search of my roommate. I asked him whether he prepared that for me, and the answer was YES. I was relaxed but somehow my heart wanted him to say NO. No because I wanted to be in a belief that my mom prepared it for me. The whole scene reminded me of mom and I missed her at that moment.I got ready for the office and was all set to leave, when I noticed a lunch box kept at dining table just for me. I
