Karam Singh Walia – The Voice That Made Malaysia Listen

A Tribute to a Fallen Journalist Who Shaped a Nation’s Consciousness

Malaysia does not just lose a journalist today. We lose a voice, a conscience, and a style of storytelling that may never be replicated again.

Karam Singh Walia was not merely reporting the news. He was awakening the nation.

A broadcast journalist with TV3 from 1995 until his retirement in 2014, Karam became a household name. Anyone who watched Buletin TV3 from the 1990s to 2014 would instantly recognise his presence — not just his face, but his voice, his delivery, and most memorably, his signature pantun that concluded each report.

He brought a distinctive flair to news delivery, shaping each report with a style uniquely his own — blending urgency, depth, and cultural richness.

A Journalist of Excellence

His work was not only impactful — it was recognised at the highest levels.

He was a multiple award winner at the Malaysia Press Institute Awards, clinching the title of “Best Environmental Television Journalist” for four consecutive years:

2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007

He was also a two-time recipient of the “Best TV Journalist” award at the prestigious Anugerah Seri Angkasa.

Long before environmental issues became global headlines, Karam was already there — exposing, questioning, and pushing for accountability.

He did not just report on rivers, forests, and pollution. He made Malaysians care.

His strength was not just in facts — but in how he delivered them.

“Harimau mati meninggalkan belang,
Manusia mati meninggalkan nama.”

Today, those words define him.

From his early days as an assistant hockey coach in Selangor, to becoming one of Malaysia’s most recognisable journalists, he carried discipline, purpose, and integrity in everything he did.

Malaysia mourns the passing of a fearless voice — a man who brought critical issues to light with depth, passion, and originality.

His work did not just inform. It awakened the nation’s conscience.

Final Salute

A beautiful soul has parted.

May you find peace and serenity in your new journey, returning to the Light from which you came.

To his beloved family — our deepest condolences. Malaysia stands with you.

We will always remember him.

Karam Singh Walia – Suara Yang Membuat Malaysia Berfikir

Malaysia tidak sekadar kehilangan seorang wartawan. Kita kehilangan satu suara, satu keberanian, dan satu legasi yang sukar diganti.

Karam Singh Walia bukan sekadar menyampaikan berita. Beliau membangkitkan kesedaran rakyat.

Seorang Wartawan Bertaraf Tinggi

Beliau adalah pemenang pelbagai anugerah di Anugerah Kewartawanan Institut Akhbar Malaysia, memenangi kategori Wartawan TV Alam Sekitar Terbaik selama empat tahun berturut-turut:

2004, 2005, 2006 dan 2007

Beliau juga dua kali memenangi Wartawan TV Terbaik di Anugerah Seri Angkasa.

Beliau membawa isu alam sekitar ke arus perdana, jauh sebelum ia menjadi perhatian global.

“Harimau mati meninggalkan belang,
Manusia mati meninggalkan nama.”

Hari ini, kata-kata itu menggambarkan dirinya.

Malaysia meratapi kehilangan seorang wartawan berani — yang menyampaikan isu penting dengan penuh jiwa dan keaslian.

Karyanya bukan sekadar memberi maklumat. Ia membentuk kesedaran rakyat.

Penghormatan Terakhir

Seorang insan yang indah telah pergi.

Semoga roh beliau tenang dan damai.

Jasa beliau akan sentiasa dikenang.
